A Sci-Fi White Christmas & New Year's Giveaway

12/20/2015

Each December, I take time to reflect upon the past year, celebrate key milestones, identify those yearly favorites, and set goals for the year to come.

  • Favorite Movie: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS (as if you had to ask)
  • Favorite Book: READY PLAYER ONE by Ernie Cline
  • Favorite Milestone: publishing my first SF novel, UNBREAKABLE.

As I sat in my living room reminiscence, a cup of hot caf in hand and Christmas music echoing through the halls, inspiration struck. It was the lyrics to a song. But not just any song. It was White Christmas...
A Sci-Fi White Christmas. As I wrote it, more inspiration struck. It's time for a giveaway. It's time to plan for 2016 reading. Hey, why don't I help those who share my affinity for geek culture get their 2016 "read" on?

So, enjoy the tune. Check out the cool stuff I'm giving away (see pics and rules for entering below). Leave a comment for a chance to win. And please tell your friends.

Good luck, Maker's Speed, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

Those are some pretty nifty gifties but I think I'd most like a copy of Unbreakable.

Congrats on publishing your first SF novel, that is the coolest of milestones!

The Force Awakens was awesome beyond my wildest expectations. I'm looking forward to the tie-in fiction that will delve into the new additions to the universe. Especially the Knights of Ren. Hey! Maybe one day you can even write a Star Wars tie-in novel. Is there any specific part of Star Wars you'd like to write about given the opportunity?

Hey, Nick. Thanks for your post. Writing a Star Wars novel would be a dream come true. A book about the backstory of Kylo Ren and Snoke would definitely be interesting. Like you, I'm dying to know more about Snoke, Luke's Jedi academy, and Ben/Kylo Ren. Snoke looks like he had a run-in with a light saber.

I am very intrigued to learn more about Snoke. I'm also excited to learn more about Kylo and the Knights of Ren. I'm wondering if they're all Luke's failed disciples. In the movie Han said that Kylo destroyed the Jedi academy (if I remember correctly) but he didn't necessarily say that Kylo KILLED them all. I think it would be pretty cool if Kylo and some of his toadies became such big Vader fanboys that they betrayed Luke. Anyway Merry Christmas to you :) I hope one day you do get the chance to write a Star Wars novel. I'd love to read it.

Hi William, this is great!

We already have Unbreakable, so I'd like the Star Wars book or the Batman one. I was six years old when Star Wars came out in 1977!!! It was my first live action film, and it's safe to say that the first three movies were a HUGE part of my childhood. Saw The Force Awakens yesterday, and I was literally tearing up throughout because it just FELT like the original movies. Great film. And needless to say, Batman is just the coolest. Anyway, best of luck with the promotion!

Thanks for buying UNBREAKABLE. That means more than I can say. I had a similar reaction to THE FORCE AWAKENS. It was like old times! Appreciate the comment. Have a Merry Christmas!

Hi William,

Congrats on publishing your first novel. I'd love a copy physical or digital (MOBI) of your book. Or either of the Star Wars books.

I was 13 when the first of the films came out in the 70s. I think it is pretty cool that I'm about to be "13" again (in Leap Years) as this new chapter in the saga comes out. Very exciting!!

Thanks for the giveaways!!

Regards,

Dian

Yeah, watching the new Star Wars film was like traveling back to my childhood. I was that child who owned an AT-AT and went home to recreate the action scenes from EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Priceless.

If love to read your book cause I love checking out new authors. My convention had a big literary track and we have established a literary scholarship.

I'd also love to read The Martian. I know out is still in theaters but I like to read the books first.

Fun fact about me. My husband and I are lifelong Straw Wars fans. I was 11 when I saw it and he was 7. We met online on the forums of the force.net. We met in person at Star Wars Celebration. We costume as Tusken Raiders (make and female ... I'm the girl). Our house has fandom all over it - collectibles, artwork, etc. We even did a display at one of the local libraries of our collection.

Our vow renewal next year will be fandom themed. He'll be in a rebel pilot, I'll be in a dress from the SW universe. We're hoping the minister will dress in his Vader. My bridesmaids will be a fem 11th Doctor and a TARDIS.

Skippyjon Jones because I am an elementary school science teacher :D and I teach every grade from K-4th and this would be a great way to introduce space concepts to KG or 1st graders. :)

I'm writing from my moms phone and we are all sci-fi junkies in my house. I added my dads web site- he's such a sci-fi head he became an artist who makes sci-fi art. We all saw Force Awakens and really liked it. When they let us in school I read the Star Wars books. But I really like audio books too.

I would love a copy of Unbreakable (if I don't win I'll get one anyway, but I'd love a signed copy - please?) and The Martian. Anything Star Wars would be a wonderful bonus!

I have been an 8th-9th grade science teacher for 23 years and am known for being a geek (every year, on the first day of class, I get asked, "Which is better - Star Trek or Star Wars?") because I love to use science fiction to teach and encourage interest in science (This year they gave me an 8th grade reading class, and I am looking for an age-appropriate science fiction novel to have my class read, I would love any suggestions).

Congratulations on "Unbreakable" and Happy New Year! Thank you for taking time to read my email and for your generosity!

Hi, Steve - thanks for your comment. I love your idea of using science fiction as a teaching tool. I'd highly recommend ENDER'S GAME - the book is set in a school in space so it's a perfect fit, and it's very clean as science fiction goes. You might also look at THE GIVER and MATCHED. Both are dystopian SF. THE FIFTH WAVE is another dystopian that's also coming the the big screen - it's an alien invasion story. And for something meatier, maybe DUNE - it's one of my all-time favorites.

Oh, STARSHIP TROOPERS is fantastic and works well as a teaching tool. It might be and older read but it's held up remarkably well.

Thank you for your service as a teacher. I have fond memories of my AP science teacher. he kicked my butt. But I learned a lot. He was tops.

Thanks again for posting. Best to you and Merry Christmas.

Love a good geeky giveaway!

We have Unbreakable at our house, my oldest has read it.. I haven't yet, but I'll get to when the weather turns! He's asked about the next one several times. He would be over moon to win a prize from you, I expect at our house the Death Star Manual would go over really well, but so would the Ultimate Star Wars book.

I'm pretty sure a signed copy of Unbreakable would be a huge hit!

😊
